2011 Newmarket Leisure Centre Paralympic Sports Day

Paralympic hopeful to attend Disability Sports Day

London 2012 Paralympic hopeful, Jonny Peacock, will be attending the second annual Disability Sports Day at Newmarket Leisure Centre on 2 July.

Jonny is keen to support the day as he got into disability sport through an event similar to this. He lost his leg aged 5 years old due to meningitis but is now a 100m athlete with a personal best of 11.63 seconds which is only 0.72 seconds off the Oscar Pistorius world record and 2.05 seconds off Usain Bolts world record.

This year’s Disability Sports Day will be an action-packed event drawing competitors and crowds from around the region. The day will feature sports such as Wheel Chair Tennis, Boccia (a target game similar to Bowls), Amputee Cricket and Football. One of the highlights of the day will be the Sledge Ice Hockey as the session will be delivered by the British Sledge Hockey Association, with Team GB players doing the coaching.

Anyone can come along to watch on the day for free. The timetable will be available on the Anglia Community Leisure website www.angcomleisure.com nearer the time. Anyone who wants more information or who is considering entering an event should contact Keiran Williams at the Leisure Centre or email him at keiran.williams@angcomleisure.com
